Welcome to the Monroe County Planning Department which provides professional planning services to Monroe County, the City of Madisonville, the City of Sweetwater, and the Town of Tellico Plains.  Typical day to day activities in the department include reviewing subdivision plats, site plans, and agenda items, meeting with residents, developers, surveyors, and local officials and being available to assist with development inquiries. 

Strategic planning activities include but are not limited to preparing amendments to subdivision regulations, and zoning ordinances, annexation studies, and preparing map attachments and map amendments with the support and assistance from the Monroe County Geographic Information Services (GIS) Department which has a comprehensive range of services.  Long range planning activities include preparing reports to assist the communities in achieving long term goals.
